ROBINSON, John W. -- John W. ROBINSON, 73, of rural Ottumwa, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at home.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. ellis andrews (lower case sic) officiating. Cremation will follow.
Open visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.
Memorials to Bethlehem Christian Church or Hospice of Wapello/Davis Counties may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 9435 Bladensburg Road, Ottumwa 52501.
Mr. ROBINSON was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Cantril, the son of William Stanley and Beatrice SMITH ROBINSON. He married Loretta GILCHRIST June 18, 1960, at Cantril Christian Church.
Mr. ROBINSON spent his childhood near Cantril and attended Niles rural school. His family then moved to Selma, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Mr. ROBINSON worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway in New York for a year and then returned to Van Buren County to work for Farmers Co-op Creamery, later known as South Iowa Dairy, delivering milk to homes and schools. He and his wife farmed in Davis and Van Buren counties. After farming, he attended Indian Hills Community College's appliance repair school and did repair work for several local businesses. He also drove a school bus for Van Buren schools from 1994 until his retirement in 2009. The ROBINSONs lived in Keosauqua from 1992 until moving to rural Ottumwa in 2009.
Mr. ROBINSON was a member and deacon of Bethlehem Christian Church in rural Floris.
Survivors include his wife; four cildren, Teresa HUEBENER and husband Bruce of Ottumwa, Roger ROBINSON and wife Gina of Huxley, Rhonda MURRAY and husband Rod of Fort Smith, Ark., and Tara NAPOLES and husband Jose of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren; one brother, Rodney ROBINSON of Keosauqua; and two sisters, Jane Ann CARLSON of Morning Sun and Martha MORTON of Pulaski.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
