REV. JOHN LINDSEY HENNING
Reverend John Lindsey HENNING, son of Matthew and Mary SWAN HENNING, was born near Wooster, Indiana September 18, 1849 and passed from this life at his home in Fairfield, Iowa, February 2, 1931 aged 81 years, 5 months and 14 days.
He graduated from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana in 1875 and from Danville Theological Seminary, in 1879. He went from the Seminary to Deer Lodge, Montana where he remained for two years and then returned east. He was in the active work of the ministry for about 42 years, his pastorates being principally in Illinois and Iowa, his longest pastorate being at Norwood, Illinois, where he served the Church for 13 years.
He was a deep and thorough student of the Word of God, upon which he mediated day and night. It could be truly said of him as was said of Timothy of old." From a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make thee wise unto Salvation. "He was well grounded in the faith and sound in doctrine.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth J. MITCHELL, Hune 12, 1889, who with two children, Ruth Elizabeth and John Lindsey, Jr. one niece and four nephews mourn his death.
In the summer of 1921 he moved with his family to Fairfield and where he has since made his home. Though not engaged here in the active work of the pastorate, he was every ready and willing to do all that lay within his power to accomplish the purpose that lay nearest to his heart, the progress of his Mastor's kingdom. He has been a true and loya Servant of the King and has now received the Kind's commendation. "Well done."
