MRS. MARY THOMPSON

The death of Mrs Mary THOMPSON, wife of Colonel James Thompson occurred at her home in this city Monday night at 10 o'clock after an illness of nearly a year. Her maiden name was Mary KOOKEN and was born in Carlisle, Pa in 1798 being in her 84th year at time of death. In 1816 she removed to Harrison County Ohio and at New Rumley in Sept 1823 (sic. 1824) married James THOMPSON.

The family removed to Carrollton that state sometime later and made that place their home for many years. In 1845 (sic. possibly 1846) they again removed to Indiana and came to this county in 1846 and resided here ever since. To Mr. and Mrs. THOMPSON 3 daughters and 5 sons were born, and Mrs. George D. TEMPLE and Mrs. John R. SHAFFER now living in this city and 2 sons, one in Van Buren County and one in Montana yet survive. Mrs. THOMPSON was a woman of unusual energy and vitality and until about a year ago always busied herself about her household duties and was as industrious and brisk about her work as one of younger years. Old age with its increasing burdens finally compelled her to yield, thought she resigned her labors with great reluctance. She was truly a good woman, a kind and affectionate wife and mother, an esteemed neighbor and was for many years a member of the M.E. Church. Her funeral occurs this afternoon at 2:30 and the remains will be interred in this city.
