HANZE, Ethel I. -- Ethel I. HANZE, 97, formerly of Brighton, died at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Parkview Home in Wayland.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Sallie Graves and the Rev. Philip Barker officiating. Burial will be in Schrock Cemetery, north of Coppock.
Family visitation will follow the funeral at the church.
A memorial has been established for Parkview Home.
Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. HANZE was born Jan. 11, 1913, north of Coppock, the daughter of Fred and Jessie CARPENTER EDWARDS. She married Harry MILLER, and they were later divorced. She married Conrad HANZE Aug. 5, 1967, in Brighton. He died Aug. 10, 1974.
Mrs. HANZE attended Franklin country school and Wayland High School. She worked at the Brighton Creamery and Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Washington, Iowa, for many years.
Mrs. HANZE was a member of Brighton United Church, formerly Brighton United Methodist Church, and was a member of the church Circles. She had been a member of Pythian Sisters National TTT.
She enjoyed playing bridge or pitch in local card clubs, making pillowcase dolls, quilting and raising roses and other flowers.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly REBLING and husband Harold of Fairfield; one son, Raymond "Bud" MILLER and wife Rose of Fairfield; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Burdette MILLER; one daughter, Betty STANDLEY; one stepson, Roger HANZE; and one grandchild.
