STATLER, Lucille K. -- Lucille K. STATLER, 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Darryl Carr officiating. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation began at noon today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established to United Presbyterian Home and Washington Public Library.

Mrs. STATLER was born April 28, 1917, at Washington County Hospital, the daughter of John and Minnie WESTERMAN KURTZ. She married Clarence STATLER in Kahoka, Mo. They later divorced.

Mrs. STATLER attended schools in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1935. After graduation, she taught at rural schools for six years. She and her husband lived in the Pleasant Plain and Fairfield area for some time. In 1950, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Mrs. STATLER resided until 1994 when she returned to Washington, Iowa. While living in Anchorage, she was employed in secretarial jobs. In 1982, she retired and moved to the Chugach Senior Center and Apartments.

While living at the Chugach Senior Center, Mrs. STATLER served on the center's board of directors. She volunteered at the community hospital and Alaska State Courthouse.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda NEWLON and husband Ron of Washington, Iowa, Martha RUSSELL and husband Gary of New Bern, N.C., and Patricia COLEMAN and husband Henry of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mildred CLINE.
