SWANSON, Clara 'Cherry' -- Clara V. "Cherry" SWANSON, 90, of Sigourney, formerly of Fairfield, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

The funeral is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marys Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

A rosary recitation will be at 4 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home, followed by prayers for a Christian wake at 7 p.m., with family visitation immediately following.

Memorials may be made to St. Marys Catholic Church.

Mrs. SWANSON was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Harper, the daughter of Nicholas E. and Anna GOELDNER HAMMES. She married Earl K. "Goldie" SWANSON Feb. 22, 1938, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek. He died April 13, 1991.

She was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed bowling and golfing. She was a member of Walton Golf and Country Club.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a past exalted ruler's wife of B.P.O. Elk's Lodge 1192, a member of VFW 2271 Ladies' Auxiliary and Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie) 1927 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Larry SWANSON and wife Judy of West Des Moines, Robert SWANSON of Federal Heights, Colo., and Steve SWANSON and wife Kathy of Silverthorne, Colo.; two sisters, Viola HEISDORFFER and Dorothy KERBER, both of Sigourney; one brother, Lloyd HAMMES of Sigourney; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marie; and six brothers, Richard, Nicholas, Howard, Harold, Leroy and Leo.
