ED F. WESTON, DRAFT BOARD MEMBER, DIES

Edward Frank WESTON, 56, instructor for the Veterans On-The-Farm training program at the Fairfield high school and a member of the Jefferson county draft board, passed away suddenly this morning of a heart attack.

WESTON, who resides about seven miles east of Fairfield, passed away at 7:20 a.m. He had been in his usual health and had been up only a few minutes when he died.

Last rites will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev. Richard W. Engstrom in charge.

The family requests that no flowers be sent and further requested that funds ordinarily used for floral offerings be used for memorials or charitable purposes.

WESTON had been prominent in Jefferson county school and civic affairs for nearly a quarter of a century. Besides his present duties as instructor for the Vets training program and serving on the draft board, he had also served as superintendent of schools at Lockridge for 15 years.

Edward Frank WESTON, "Ed" as he was known by his many friends, was born May 1, 1894, at Ravenswood, Illinois, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. WESTON. He is a graduate of the Mt. Pleasant high school and of Iowa Wesleyan college. He also did graduate work at Parsons college, University of Arizona and Iowa State college.

The WESTONs moved to the Lockridge community in 1920. He was named superintendent of schools there in 1926, a post he held for 15 years or until the end of the 1940-41 school term.

He later taught manual arts in the Roosevelt high school at Des Moines before he joined the teaching staff for the Veterans Farm Training program at the Fairfield high school on July 1, 1948.

He has served as a member of the Jefferson county Selective Service board for the past several years.

WESTON was a member of the Baptist church at Lockridge, a member of the Lions club, American Legion and the Masons.

Besides his wife he is survived by two children: Frank E WESTON who resided east of Fairfield near his parents' home; and Rev. Mark E. WESTON of Oakville, Iowa; and three grand children.

He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Helen FORESTER, Detroit; Morgan WESTON, Aurora, Illinois; Paul WESTON, Chicago; Mrs. Ruth PARKER, San Fernando, California; Mrs. Alice MITCHELL, Scotland, Ontario, Canada; Mrs. Rachel WESTON; William WESTON, Wheatland, Wyoming; Mrs. Katherine UTTERS, Chicago; Mrs. Gertrude BROWN, Normal, Illinois; Phillip WESTON, Detroit; Mrs. Sarah BUTLER, Winfield, Iowa; and Charles Curtis, Spencer, Iowa.
