WELLS, Ross L. -- Ross L. WELLS, 80, of Eldon, died at 2:39 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Eldon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arley Ellingson officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 of Douds, will be in Iowaville Cemetery in rural Selma.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa Alzheimer's Unit may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 2233 Birch Ave., Batavia 52533.

Mr. WELLS was born Oct. 14, 1929, near Cantril, the son of Leonard and Faye McMANIS WELLS. He married Beverly SWAIM, and they divorced. He married Alice WINN GRIMSLEY in 1975.

Mr. WELLS grew up in the Selma community and graduated from Selma High School in 1947. He farmed in the Selma and Eldon area and owned and operated Wells Hardware, Plumbing, Heating and Skelgas in Eldon. He also had been a heating and air conditioning engineer for Green Colonial Furnace Co. in Des Moines.

He served in the Unite States Marine Corps during the Koran conflict.

Mr. WELLS was a member of Eldon United Methodist Church and was a founding member of Gothic Area Tourism-Eldon.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike WELLS of Sigourney and Allen WLLS of Batavia; one daughter, Debra WHARTON and husband Jedd of Batavia; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Steve GRIMSLEY of Keokuk and Gary GRIMSLEY of Dalton, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Debra WISE of Carrollton, Mo.; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl WELLS of Napa, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
