SHEETZ, Horace Godfrey -- Horace Godfrey SHEETZ age 91 of 2237 Highway 34, Fairfield died at 11:30 P.M. Thursday at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

He was born May 1, 1918 at Ollie, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Frona KEIFER SHEETZ.

He grew up in the Belle Plaine community. He married Bernadine Ann BUCH on November 28, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. They lived and farmed in the Sigourney - Ollie area before moving to Fairfield in 1967. Horace worked for 30 years for Rockwell International before his retirement.

Horace was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, V.F.W., Elks and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Horace enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife on June 28, 2004, his parents, 2 brothers Charles and Bill and 1 sister Anna Belle FISCHER and a granddaughter: Krista SHEETZ.

Surviving are his 2 sons: Aaron (Patty) SHEETZ of Stockport; and Nyle (Norma) SHEETZ of Fairfield; 4 daughters: Sue Ann HOCK and her friend Rich Bogner of Fairfield; Mary Lou McENTEE of Waukee, Iowa; Judy (Melvin) DIEHL of Fairfield; and Cheryl SHEETZ of Fairfield. 12 grandchildren: Todd SHEETZ, Kip SHEETZ, Angela McCARTNEY, Jennifer OSBORN, Sara KELLY, Cary HOCK, Lindy JOHNSON, Meredith McENTEE, Natalie McENTEE, Casey DIEHL, Matt DIEHL, and Shawna DIEHL; plus 3 great grandchildren: Krysta SHEETZ, Warren (McENTEE) PICKERING and Zane JOHNSON.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Stephen Page officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield with military rites.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the St. Mary Catholic Church, ending with a Catholic Prayer Wake.

Memorials may be made to A Welcoming Family of Faith (St. Mary) Church, Parkview Care Center Activity Fund or to Hospice Compassus.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
