PHILLIPS, Carol A. -- Carol A. PHILLIPS, 69, of Eldon entered into new life on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the home of her sister Connie NEWTON, Blue Grass, Iowa. This past year she had fought a courageous battle against cancer.

She was born in Washington, Iowa on May 7, 1940 to Bernard O. and Anna M. (SCHMITT) WOLF. Her family moved to Eldon Iowa when she was two years old. Carol attended school in Eldon, graduating from Eldon High School in 1958 - she was recognized as the 1958 Class Queen. Carol was a lifelong Eldon resident. In 1961 she completed her nursing education from the St. Joseph Hospital and worked at several area hospitals. Carol was school nurse for over twenty years at Cardinal Community Schools, retiring in 1999. She and Ronald PHILLIPS were married on December 28, 1963 in Eldon. He died December 22, 2000. Carol was a member of Chapter I of the National TTT Society, a past member of the Eldon Lioness Club and belonged to St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Eldon.

Family memories focus on a mother, sister and friend who cherished time with her children and grandchildren, enjoyed antiquing and was a genuinely kind and generous individual. Carol's surviving family include 3 children, Colleen (Lloyd) LILLIE of Washington, Iowa, Page (James) SCOVEL of Mount Union, Iowa and Todd (Barbara) PHILLIPS of Omaha, Nebraska, 5 grandchildren, Owen, Megan, Lindsey and Nathan LILLIE and Tristan SCOVEL, 3 siblings, Connie NEWTON, Blue Grass, Iowa, Clair WOLF, Washington, Curtis WOLF, Muscatine and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Craig WOLF.

Open visitation begins at 4 pm on Sunday, January 17 at Kremer Funeral Home, Eldon. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of Carol's life will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10 am at Kremer Funeral Home. Burial is in the Eldon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Eldon Senior Meals or the Cardinal Community Schools. Casket bearers will be Joe Eakins, Tommy Dee, Greg Adam, Garry F. PHILLIPS, James SCOVEL and Lloyd LILLIE. Honorary casket bearers will be Garry D. PHILLIPS, Richard Marie and Donnie PHILLIPS. Kremer Funeral Home, Eldon assisting with arrangements.
