WALTER BURNS, WELL KNOWN IN BUSINESS, DIES
Vice President of Malleable Iron Company for several years

J. Walter BURNS, 903 South 2nd St. passed away at the Jefferson county hospital last night at 9:50 p.m. He took seriously ill at home earlier yesterday evening and was taken to the hospital about 8:45.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic church in charge of Rev. Father H. M. Thoman. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

The Holy Name and Rosary societies will meet in the BURNS home Friday evening at 8:15 p.m. for the Rosary.

Mr. BURNS was born Sept. 30, 1882, at Lovington, Ill. He came to Fairfield in 1903, where he had made his home since.

He is survived by his wife, Florence SLATTERY BURNS, three sons, Lyle of Minneapolis, Minn., Robert of Griffin, Georgia, and John at home; and one daughter, Eloise, also at home.

One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth HOGAN of Hannibal, Mo., and one brother, Frank, of Decatur, Ill., also survive.

Walter BURNS has been prominent in business, church, and social circles in Fairfield for many years. He has been connected with the Iowa Malleable Iron Company for 37 years, serving as Superintendent until the last 10 years, during which time he was Vice President of the institution.

He was a faithful and prominent member of the St. Mary's Catholic church in this city. He was a charter member of the Holy Name Society and had served on the church finance committee at various times in the past. He was a member of the building committee at the time the Rectory was built. His aid and advice to those in need was most valuable, and his passing is a great loss to Fairfield.

Mr. BURNS, for the past four years, had served as one of the directors of the First National Bank. He had also been President of the Jefferson County Building and Loan Association for several years.

Many Attended BURNS Rites This Morning

Many friends and relatives gathered this morning at the St. Mary's Catholic church to pay last respects to Walter BURNS, well known business man, who died suddenly Wednesday night.

Services were in charge Rev. Father H. M. Thoman, and interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Pallbearers were P. L. O'Neil, Fred Bowermaster, August Van Lantschoot, Paul Raymond, X. O. Nady and Herman Berg.

The Holy Name and Rosary Societies met at the BURNS home last night at 8:15 for the Rosary.

To All Whom It May Concern:

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of J. W. BURNS, Deceased, is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, and that Monday, April 20, A. D. 1942 at 9:30 o'clock A. M. has been set for proof and final hearing of same.
