HUGHES, D. Marie -- D. Marie HUGHES, 95, of Cantril, died at 2:16 a.m. today, Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

HUGHES, Marie -- Marie HUGHES, 95, of Cantril, died at 2:16 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at home.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, west of Keosauqua.

Open visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Lebanon Cemetery or Cantril United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at PO Box 157, Cantril 52542.

Mrs. HUGHES was born Jan. 11, 1914, near Cantril, the daughter of John and Della DOAN WHITCANACK. She married Rupert R. HUGHES Oct. 23, 1930. He died Jan. 6, 1973.

Mrs. HUGHES lived most of her life in Van Buren County except for a few years in Rock Island, Ill.

She was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include five sons, Allen and wife Rita of Keosauqua, Howard of North Charleston, S.C., Danny and wife Vickie of Cantril, Rodney and wife Patricia of Mayfield, Pa., and Roger of Cantril; six daughters, Maxine SMITH of Cantril, Joanne BISHOP of Cantril, Beverly LATIMER of Carbondale, Pa., Evelyn HUFFMAN and husband Roger of Utica, Ill., Phyllis BICKERSTAFF and husband Ken of Hopedale, Ohio, and Sandy GILLESPIE of Irving, Texas; 32 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jack, six brothers; and two sisters.
