BOYLE, F.D. - Dr. F.D. BOYLE, 88, of Keosauqua, Iowa passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 in Davenport, Iowa following an extended illness.

He was born April 24, 1921 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Frederick E. and Goldie B. (HOWELL) BOYLE. A 1939 graduate of Fort Madison High School, he married Charla Ann DUFFY on May 16, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri.

An Army paratrooper veteran of the 82nd Airbourne Division and Purple Heart recipient, Dr. BOYLE jumped at Normandy on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge. Following World War II, he was employed by Duponts in Fort Madison. He was a 1954 graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic and practiced in Keosauqua for 44 years prior to his retirement in 1998.

Dr. BOYLE was an eighty year member of the Christian Church, where he had served in various capacities and was a former member of several Chiropractic associations, Lions and Rotary Clubs, and the American Legion. He served a term as mayor of Keosauqua, was instrumental in bringing the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center and natural gas service to the community, and had been honored as Man of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Charla Ann; son and daughter-in-law Jonathan (Sr.) and Carolyn BOYLE; five grandchildren: Sarah HOFFMAN-KOETTEL, Jonathan, Jr., Patrick, Joseph, and Bridget BOYLE; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam HOFFMAN in 1976, his parents, and a sister, Dorothy FRANCIS.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2-4 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua. Memorials may be made to the Cantril Christian Church or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
