Mathew C. CARTER, a resident of this city several years ago, and the father of Mrs. J. V. MILLER, 1007 West Briggs street, passed away this morning at 7 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. B. HEWITT in Indianola. He had been bedfast for the past five months and in failing health for several months prior to that.

Mr. CARTER was 77 years old Feb. 3 and he was born in Kentucky. His wife who was formerly Miss Marilla SALLADY (sic.), died Feb. 13, 1909. A daughter, Mrs. Mina RUSSELL preceded him in death Jan. 17. He leaves the following children: Mrs. MILLER of this city, Mrs. HEWITT of Indianola, Mrs. F. C. CAMPBELL of Houston, Texas, Mrs. U. S. FLETCHER of Portland, Ore., Mrs. R. L. RASMUSSEN and L. C. CARTER of Des Moines and John CARTER of Lansing, Kans.

Note: The more or less correct spelling of Mathew's wife is: Marilla Amanda Salladay. The Salladay surname does have several variations that can be found; the one used in this obituary appears to be a simple typo of leaving out the final 'a'.
Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Old.P.001
