SANDY, Edith H. -- Edith H. SANDY, 88, of Keosauqua, died at 6:37 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A funeral wil be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lebanon United Methodist Church at the junction of J-40 and V-64 in Van Buren County. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.
A memorial will be designated at a later date. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the fmaily at 117 N. Gear Ave., West Burlington 52655.
Mrs. SANDY was born Jan. 28, 1921, near Dodgeville in Des Moines County, the daughter of John and Matie YOUNT WEYER. She married Melvin J. SANDY June 19, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died March 2, 1995.
Mrs. SANDY and her husband lived in Des Moines County and moved to the SANDY family farm north of Milton after he completed his service in the United States Navy during World War II. Mrs. SANDY was a farm homemaker. She also worked as a nurse's aide and activities director at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua and as a nurse's aide and housekeeper at Van Buren County Hospital.
Mrs. SANDY was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Valley Neighborhood Club, Red Hat Society, T.O.P.S. and Keosauqua Quilt Club.
She had won many awards for her decorated cakes.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda WALKER of West Burlington; three sons, Raymond SANDY and wife Joyce of Jonesboro, Ark., John SANDY and wife Margery of Centerville and Timothy SANDY of Keosauqua; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma HALE of Iowa City; and one brother, Harold LINDER of Sperry.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John WEYER.
