Orville L. PRILL, 88, of 701 E. Adams Ave., died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Drever officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will open at 9 a.m. Sunday at Raymond Funeral Home with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, First Lutheran Church or Fairfield Kiwanis Club.
PRILL was born June 18, 1908, at Glidden, the son of Charles and Millie LOESCHEN PRILL. He married Elvira RUDI on April 12, 1931, at Glidden. She died Aug. 6, 1934. He married Mary BARNES GUNNINSON on Oct. 27, 1940 in Edina, Mo. She died Oct. 10, 1979. PRILL moved to Fairfield Jan. 1, 1931, when he began work as cost accountant for the Stewart Brothers Universal Producing Company. In May 1942, he began work for the federal government at the Iowa Army Ordnance Plant in Burlington, until his retirement on June 21, 1968. He received many commendations and awards for his service at the plant. PRILL was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. He joined the Fairfield Kiwanis Club in 1968, serving as treasurer for many years. He was named Kiwanian of the Year and Fairfield's Mr. Kiwanis for the number of years he organized the Kiwanis Kids Day Pancake program and was campground registrar at the Old Threshers Reunion. He was treasurer of the local NARFE chapter until health problems forced him to resign. He and his wife were active in genealogy in Jefferson County. PRILL was named Friend of FHS and was a avid supporter of Fairfield school sports and music programs. He played, organized and managed softball and hardball teams in the Fairfield area prior to World War II.
Survivors include a son, Ronald of Fairfield; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Peters of Fort Madison, who grew up in the family home.
