Jacob WRIGHT died at this home in Cedar township seven miles southeast of the city Saturday morning. His age was ninety-one years and twenty-three days, he had lived in this county since 1848, and all that time on the same farm. Deceased was born in Lincoln county, Ken., grew to manhood and was barried to Rebecca Gross (sic. GROCE is the usual accepted spelling) in Cumberland county, that state. When about thirty years of age he removed to Illinois, and after a residence of several years in that state came to this county.
To Mr. and Mrs. WRIGHT ten children were born - all boys - and eight are now living. Four make their homes in this county, William, Isom, Alfred and John; Elijah lives in Wapello county; Isaac in Audubon; Peter in Scott county, Ill.; Thomas in Dade county, Mo. With two exceptions all were with their father in his last illness. The families of these sons now number forty-one grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Mrs. WRIGHT died at the old homestead eighteen years ago. When a boy of seventeen Mr. WRIGHT connected himself with the Primitive Baptist church and he strictly adhered to its teaching through the remaining seventy-three years of his life. He was a man who was held in high esteem by those who knew him, and his death will be generally regretted. The remains were interred Sunday in the cemetery named for the dead man, and near his old home. A procession numbering 107 vehicles followed the body to the grave. The funeral sermon will be preached at the family residence next Sunday at 4 p.m.---------
