SCHINSTOCK, Zita -- Zita SCHINSTOCK, 89, of rural Salem, died from injuries received in a recent auto accident at 1:52 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, with the Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Houghton.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church for the rectory roofing fund.

Arrangements are in the care of Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in West Point.

Mrs. SCHINSTOCK was born June 26, 1920, in St. Paul, the daughter of Ray and Frances HAFFNER MENKE. She married John A. SCHINSTOCK Aug. 22, 1944. He died in 2004.

Mrs. SCHINSTOCK was a lifelong resident of the St. Paul and Houghton area. She was a housewife.

Mrs. SCHINSTOCK was a past member of St. John's Catholic Church choir, St. John's Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella and Mount Hamill and Houghton Sunshine Girls.

Her hobbies included crocheting, painting, entertaining by playing the piano and spending time with her family. For many years, she and her husband played music for weddings, anniversaries and local nursing homes after they retired.

Survivors include four daughters, Pat DAUFELDT and husband Donald of West Liberty, Diana MENKE and husband Paul of Fort Madison, Maria HAMM and husband Glenn of Fairfield and Johnita VORWALDT and husband Randy of Fort Madison; three sons, Ray SCHINSTOCK and wife Marilyn of Salem, Mike SCHINSTOCK and wife Donna of Donnellson and Joe SCHINSTOCK and wife Cindy of Salem; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandechildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; and two brothers, Eugene MENKE of Burlington and Cletus MENKE of Weaver.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
