Ruby BROCKWAY

Ruby BROCKWAY, 85, of Ottumwa, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Matthew Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. BROCKWAY's memory.

Mrs. BROCKWAY was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Agency, the daughter of Edward and Anna BRODTHAGE RUDAT. She married Donald E. BROCKWAY April 21, 1946. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. BROCKWAY grew up around Mount Pleasant and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1941. She attended the College of Commerce in Burlington and then worked as a payroll clerk of Silas Mason.

Mrs. BROCKWAY was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Lutheran Women's League and Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries. She had been a Cub Scout den mother for seven years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, making crafts and reading.

Survivors include two children, Charles BROCKWAY of Madison Height, Va., and Kriss SMITH of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Lucy FORD of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Fred RUDAT of Fairfield.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald RUDAT; and two sisters, Elsie TACKENBERG and Susie WILLIS.
