Harriet CASTELL, 80, of Berryville, Ark., formerly of Fairfield, died Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 1991, at her home.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 3 at Berryville United Methodist Church in Berryville. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield and the Berryville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. CASTELL was born April 20, 1910, in Fairfield, Conn., the daughter of Arthur Harold and Elizabeth WILLARD HOPE. She attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and earned a master's degree from Columbia University. She taught elementary school before her marriage to Dr. John W. CASTELL on June 29, 1935. They lived in Fairfield until moving to Berryville in February 1976. He died Dec. 9, 1989. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and later of Berryville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, TTT, Fairfield Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, was active in Girl Scouts and helped with Head Start.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Hugh CASTELL of Bellevue, Wash.; two daughters, Linda CASTELL-SNELL of Redwood City, Calif., Melanie ST. JERMAINE of Berryville; a brother, Willard HOPE of Los Angeles, nieces and nephews. A sister, Dorothy MICHEL, preceded her in death.

Note: While Harriet HOPE CASTELL was born in Fairfield, Conn., the other references in the obituary are to Fairfield, Iowa.
