SHOTT, George B. -- George B. SHOTT, 79, of San Francisco, Calif., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at home.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at Sky Lawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, Calif.

Mr. SHOTT was born March 20, 1930, in Hay Springs, Neb., the son of Ralph and Vada SHOTT. He married Mollie BRAY, and they divorced. He later married MaryLou BERNHOFT.

Mr. SHOTT moved to Birmingham at age 4. He graduated from Birmingham High School in 1947 and attended Parsons College. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford University. He founded Shott Capital Management in San Francisco, Calif.

Mr. SHOTT served in the United States Navy on the USS Iowa.

He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church. He was a trustee of Grinnell College and vice chairman of the college's investment committee.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill SHOTT and wife Nancy of Park City, Utah; one daughter, Quin WHITMAN and husband Doug of Atherton, Calif.; five grandchildren; one brother, Ralph SHOTT Jr. of Centerville; and one sister, Martha "Marti" PUFF of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
