BAKER, William Edward -- William Edward BAKER, 91, of New London, formerly of Lockridge, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
A graveside memorial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Wayne K. Kamm officiating.
No visitation is planned.
Arrangements are in the care of Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. BAKER was born April 5, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of William Edward and Edith CONKLIN BAKER.
Mr. BAKER attended the Fishburn Military Academy in Waynesboro, Va. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II.
For many years, Mr. BAKER was employed at the Mental Health Institution in Chrokee; he later transferred to the Mental Health Institution in Mount Pleasant. He finished his working career as a security guard for the Pinkerton Security Company.
Mr. BAKER was of the Christian faith.
He was a fan of the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his special companion, Betty Jane JENNINGS of New London and Betty's family including two sons, Richard JENNINGS and wife Diane of West Point and Mike JENNINGS and wife Helen of Clinton, two daughters, Susan SINCLAIR of Mount Pleasant and Joan HUMMEL of Cocoa, Fla., nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert BAKER; and one daughter, Cindy Lee BAKER TINKER.
