ROBERTS, Charles Ed -- Charles Ed ROBERTS, 87, of Cantril, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
A funeral will be ato 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials to Milton Senior Meals or Cantril United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 21546 195th St., Keosauqua 52565.
Mr. ROBERTS was born Jan. 12, 1922, south of Wyaconda, Mo., the son of Charles A. and Claire Delle BARRY ROBERTS. He married Eulala June DAVIS May 5, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. ROBERTS and his wife farmed in the Kahoka, Mo., area and operated a restaurant/gas station/motel on Highway 66 in Stanton, Mo. Then they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Mr. ROBERTS worked for Fluer Construction Company. They later moved to Billings, Mont.; Baton Rouge, La.; and Godfrey, Ill., in 1956. Mr. ROBERTS was part owner and manager of Piasa Boat Harbor in Godfrey. In 1963, he and his wife moved to Keosauqua, and he continued to work construction. He owned and operated Roberts Park, north of Keosauqua, and Van Buren Bowl.
Mr. ROBERTS was a charter member of Keosauqua Lions Club and was a 50-year member of International Brotherhood of Carpenters. He attended Cantril United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Charles L. ROBERTS of Cantril; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one daughter, Linda SCHMITT; and two brothers, Raymond H. and Wilber Dean ROBERTS.
