LAUGHLIN, Howard M. -- Howard M. LAUGHLIN, 82, of rural Douds, died at 12:32 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, in the Jefferson County Health Center emergency room in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion Bible Church in Douds, with the Rev. Michael Mosier and the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, where the family will be present from 4-5 p.m.

Memorials to Zion Bible Church, Douds First Responders or Mount Moriah Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 11987 Route V64, Douds 52551.

Mr. LAUGHLIN was born Aug. 29, 1926, near Hunnewell, Mo., the son of Leonard H. and Mary BAIRD LAUGHLIN. He married Linda AUGER Aug. 29, 1974, in Batavia.

Mr. LAUGHLIN graduated from Douds-Leando High School in 1945 and attended Iowa Success School in Ottumwa. He had worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works and had owned and operated Fulton Pet and Seed in Ottumwa for 19 years. He also had farmed his grandparents' farms in Van Buren County.

Mr. LAUGHLIN served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Zion Bible Church in Douds. He was serving on the Mount Moriah Cemetery Board at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kelly PILCHER of Fairfield and Bev WYATT and husband Kevin of Douds; one son, Zachary LAUGHLIN of Douds; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Dorothy TEDROW, Evelyn and Helen GOEHRING.
