LaRUE, John Thomas Sr. -- John Thomas LaRUE Sr., 92, of Eldon, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Dave Albert officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eldon Little League or Heartland Humane Society.
Mr. LaRUE was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Wayne County, the son of Fred and May Lilly LaRUE Sr. He married Mary Jane SHILLING Jan. 11, 1938. She died Nov. 9, 2002.
Mr. LaRUE was a coal miner for 20 years. He worked at People Plumbing & Heating for 13 years and owned and operated LaRue Plumbing & Heating in Eldon for 20 years.
Mr. LaRUE served on the Eldon City Council and had been superintendent of water in Eldon.
Survivors include five sons, Tom LaRUE of Eldon, Donald LaRUE of Troy, Larry LaRUE of Waxachie, Texas, John LaRUE Jr. of Milton and Ted LaRUE of Virginia; five daughters, Marilyn McELFISH and Angela SKINNER, both of Ottumwa, Ruby EHRET of Phoenix, Ariz., Tammy ROBERTSON of Douds and Mary Ann CLARK of Eldon; one daughter-in-law, Judith LaRUE of Eldon; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Ronald LaRUE; one daughter-in-law, Judy LARUE; four grandsons, three brothers, Raymond, Fred and Charles LaRUE; and five sisters, Fannie ARBOGAST, Elizabeth REEVES, Cecil MORGAN, Lenora McFARLAND and Ethel GROOMS.
