ALLEN, Larry Dean -- Larry Dean ALLEN, 69, of Illinois, died Thursday, July 23, 2009.

A service was held July 28 at Owens Funeral Home Chapel in Champaign, Ill. Interment was in Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Ill.

Mr. ALLEN was born Feb. 17, 1940, the son of Charles Howard and Stella Elizabeth ALLEN. He married Vonnette MARTIN May 26, 1961.

Mr. ALLEN graduated from Fairfield High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After eight years in the air force, he and his wife settled in Rantoul, Ill.

Mr. ALLEN worked a short time at Humco before going to work for the United States Postal Service. He attended Parkland College and then joined the University of Illinois Police Department. He served with the department for more than 20 years, and after retiring, he worked in the university's athletic department. He was working for Champaign County Probation and Court Services at the time of his death.

Mr. ALLEN was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Illinois Lodge No. 17. He attended Canaan Baptist Church in Urbana, Ill.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Christy Celeste ALLEN SOBERANIS of Brandon, Fla., and Whitney ETTER-ALLEN of Champaign-Urbana, Ill.; and his mother, Stella ALLEN ROBINSON of Champaign, Ill.
