Mrs. Carrie S. WHITING, widow of the late Dr. H.C. WHITING, retired Presbyterian minister, passed away about 11:45 last night at her home, 602 S. Main. She suffered a stroke a little more than a year ago and had been bedfast since.
Last rites will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. C.R. Douglass in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Carrie S WHITING, 92, was born May 17, 1864, in Fairfield and spent practically her entire life in this community. She was the daughter of the late John A. and Christina HERSHBERGER (sic - HIRSHBERGER) SPIELMAN. She was reared and educated in Fairfield, attended Parsons college and the University of Iowa.
A member of the Presbyterian church, she was united in marriage on October 15, 1889 to the Rev. Christian S. McELHINNY. He passed away August 20, 1910.
On June 26, 1920, she was married to Dr. H.C. WHITING at Ottumwa. He also preceded his wife in death.
Mrs. WHITING is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leo NADY, Fairfield; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ansel GILLIS, Pasadena, Cal.; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother Fred SPIELMAN, Fairfield, and a sister Mrs. Fred HARRISON, Los Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two brothers, and a sister.
