HICKS, Mildred E. -- Mildred E. HICKS, 99, of Fairfield, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Abingdon Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Jackson officiating.

Open visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cards to the family and memorials to Hospice-Compassus Cedar Rapids may be sent to 604 W. Jefferson Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. HICKS was born July 22, 1910, in Abingdon, the daughter of Ransom and Edna IVES WHITMORE. She married Robert HICKS March 30, 1935, in New London. He died Dec. 11, 1976.

Mrs. HICKS graduated from high school and attended one year of college. She was a homemaker and retired schoolteacher.

She attended Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include seven nephews and two nieces.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Margaret GANTZ, Marie COUGHLIN, Pauline WHITMORE, Florence FAAS, Kathryn ROBISON and Frances WHITMORE; and one brother, Cephas WHITMORE.
