COCHRAN, Blanche Hope -- Blanche Hope COCHRAN, 91, formerly of Hedrick, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa, where she received wonderful care.

Blanche was born October 26, 1917 at Fairfield, the daughter of Louis Frederick and Fannie Hope HUGUS HILDEBRAND. She was raised and educated in Fairfield, and graduated from the Birmingham (IA) High School with the class of 1936. She attended Parsons College, and began teaching country school at Round Prairie, east of Fairfield, and later at Center #9, and Blackhawk #8. On February 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to Charles M. COCHRAN at Kahoka, Missouri, and he died December 13, 2004. She worked for several years as a cook at Dickey's Prairie Home Restaurant, but her main career was being a wife and mother. She was a member of the Hedrick/Martinsburg United Methodist Church; the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Hedrick; volunteered with the congregate meals site in Hedrick; and a former member of the Hedrick Housing Board. Blanche enjoyed cooking; playing bingo; sequence board games; and visiting with family and friends.

Her family includes a son and his wife, Steven and Rita COCHRAN of LeClaire, Iowa; a daughter and her husband: Arlys and Stephen FRITZ of Burlington; three grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a sister, Frances PETTY of Cameron, Missouri.

Besides her husband, Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond HILDEBRAND of Bettendorf and a sister: Mae MANNING of Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the Revered Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be in the McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center. Visitation will be Tuesday morning, with the family present Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Blanche COCHRAN Memorial Fund.
