PFEIFER, Katherine E. -- Katherine E. PFEIFER, 86, of Birmingham, died today, Monday, July 6, 2009, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home.

PFEIFER, Katherine Elizabeth -- Katherine Elizabeth PFEIFER, 86, of Birmingham, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Jefferson County Health Center.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Interment will follow the service in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to 12737 Highway 1, Birmingham 52535.
Mrs. PFEIFER was born July 16, 1922, in Easton, Ill., the daughter of Crawford and Emma PEPLOW SKAGGS. She married W. Scott PFEIFER Jan. 16, 1960, at Free Methodist Church in Birmingham.
Mrs. PFEIFER was a homemaker. She also had worked for the Van Buren Telephone Company for many years.
Mrs. PFEIFER attended Bethel Worship Center in Douds.
She and her husband camped at the Iowa State Fair for more than 50 years. She enjoyed lighthouses, crossword puzzles and crafts. She also enjoyed babysitting the Birmingham community.
Survivors include four children, Judy McCLARAN and husband Robert of Birmingham, Jackie SMITH of Fairfield, Gary HOWARD and wife Corliss of Omaha, Neb., and Jim PFEIFER and wife Lori of Milford, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora McWHIRTER of Birmingham; and one brother, Howard SKAGGS of Birmingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five siblings, Wilda BOOTH, Betty Jean SKAGGS, Lyle SKAGGS, Bill SKAGGS and Jim SKAGGS.
