Tuesday morning about six o'clock, at the home of George Baughner, in this city, occurred the death of George DeVOE, of Talmage, Nebraska, a stranger to all but a few, in this vicinity.
He came to the city about two months ago and recently had been boarding with Mr. George Baughner, who lives a block east of the northeast corner of the square. He had recently had the typhoid fever and one day last week he walked into town from the farm of Wm. Tait, who lives about ten miles northwest of the city. Being very hungry he went to a restaurant and ate a can of oysters, which caused him to have hemorrhage of the bowels. This resulted in his death as stated above.
Sunday it was learned that he was an Odd Fellow and a Mason, as well as a member of the Methodist church at Talmage' Nebraska (sic), which was his home, and steps were immediately taken by these societies to wait on him. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, under the auspices of Fairfield Lodge, No. 629 I. O. O. F., and he was buried in the Evergreen cemetery.
A brother of the deceased arrived on the early morning train yesterday, and was present at the funeral. The man was unmarried and about thirty-eight years of age.
