FRANKLIN, Donald Kenneth -- Donald Kenneth FRANKLIN, 82, of Winfield, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery, with the Rev. Jo Hary officiating. Cremation has been accorded.
No visitation is planned.
A general memorial has been established.
Honts Funeral Home of Winfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. FRANKLIN was born April 30, 1927, in Albia, the son of William and Ruth DAVISON FRANKLIN. He married Bonnie SAPP June 11, 1946, in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. FRANKLIN served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at the New London Glove factory, Winfield Farmers Coop for 21 years, Agri Builders in Winfield and Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Mount Pleasant for eight years. He also farmed for several years.
He was a member of Winfield Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Beckie JONES and husband Richard of Fairfield and Ellen RICE and husband Bill of Morning Sun; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Merel FRANKLIN of West Des Moines; and four sisters, Nancy, Maxine, Betty and Thelma, all of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Bonita Lea FRANKLIN; four brothers and three sisters.
