LUEDTKE, Vera Margaret -- Vera Margaret LUEDTKE, 96, of Fairfield, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Jefferson County Health Center.

A funeral wil be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

Mrs. LUEDTKE is survived by one son, Gene and wife Louise of Fairfield.

LUEDTKE, Vera Margaret -- Vera Margaret LUEDTKE, 96, of 2237 Highway 34 East, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church Action Workday, Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield or a charity of the donor's choice. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1938 185th St., Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. LUEDTKE was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Germanville in northeast Jefferson County, the daughter of John Adam and Katie MILLER BURGER. She married August Martin LUEDTKE May 3, 1934, at the BURGER family home 6 miles north-east of Fairfield. He died Jan. 12, 1986.

Mrs. LUEDTKE attended rural Jefferson County schools before attending Lockridge High School for two years and then graduating from Fairfield High School in 1931 with a Normal Training Certificate. She taught at Jefferson County rural schools, including Walnut No. 4, Blackhawk No. 8 and Penn No. 9, for three years. She and her husband began their married life farming near Four Corners for eight years, before moving 3 miles northwest of Fairfield where they farmed for 44 years. Mrs. LUEDTKE was a homemaker, assisting on the family farm throughout her married life. She resided at Calu Apartments for six years before moving to Parkview Care Center for the past eight months.

Mrs. LUEDTKE was a member of First Lutheran Church. She had been a member of Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women and also was the last surviving member of the neighborhood ladies Maple Leaf Club northwest of Fairfield.

Mrs. LUEDTKE maintained a large garden and enjoyed tending flowers. She had sewed daily, making quilts, lap robes and various other church missionary projects until her move to Parkview Care Center. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, playing cards, attending family reunions and studying family history. She had attended all 90 annual BURGER family reunions including the 2008 reunion.

Survivors include one son, Gene and wife Louise plus grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James; and three sisters, Edith GILBERT, Louise I. SCHILLERSTROM and Ruth WIGGINS.
