VAN SICKLE, Lyle Victor -- Lyle Victor VAN SICKLE, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his residence.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Regan D. Stoops officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present form 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Henry County Health Center Dialysis Unit, Hospice of Central Iowa or First Baptist Church.

Mr. VAN SICKLE was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William Ernest and Irma Margaret TUNSEY VAN SICKLE. He married Phyllis Darlene DISNEY March 23, 1952, at First Methodist Church of Washington.

Mr. VAN SICKLE's family moved to a farm near West Chester and later into West Chester, where he graduated from West Chester High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1950-1952, serving during the Korean War in the combat engineers and as a dental hygienist.

Mr. VAN SICKLE worked for the Jefferson County Engineer's Office. He then worked at a filling station in Fairfield. He later accepted a position at Lowden Overhead Monorail in Fairfield, at which he worked for 15 years. He then worked at Sitler's in Fairfield, and for the next 22 years, he was empoyed in the maintenance department of the Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute, from which he retired.

Mr. VAN SICKLE attended First Baptist Church and was a member of AFSCME.

For six years, he participated in craft shows with his woodworking. He traveled through Iowa and Missouri as the bus driver for his daughters' musical group. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Vivian DONALDSON of Mount Pleasant, Pamela PUTNAM and husband Allen of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Cynthia CAMPBELL and husband Dennis of Fulton, Mo., and Margaret "Peggy" FAIRCHID and husband Douglas of Holland, Mich.; one son, Alan VAN SICKLE and wife Teresa of Piedmont, Okla.; one sister, Margery JOHNSON of Pleasant Plain; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William VAN SICKLE.
