WORLEY, James 'Jim' R. -- James "Jim" R. WORLEY, 71, of Iowa City died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Mercy Hospice of leukemia.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, June 1, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Church with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Military Honors and a luncheon will follow the funeral service. Committal Services will be Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6:00 pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a prayer service and rosary will be held at 5:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Church or St. Wenceslaus Church or Iowa City Hospice.

Jim was born November 21, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Clayton and Dorothy BELIEL WORLEY. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Patrick's High School, Iowa City, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1957. Jim retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force in 1977, where he had been an air traffic controller.

Jim was employed at HP Smith Co, now Loparex, for 18 years. He was a dedicated employee and possessed a strong work ethic. Jim loved to travel, do photography, woodworking, work jigsaw puzzles and a birdwatcher.

Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn and their daughters, Joyce (Aaron) LEISCH of The Woodlands, Texas and Wendae (Michael) WAITE of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Krista and Melissa LIESCH; a brother, Lester (Rosemary) WORLEY of Washington; a sister, Doris MINEART of Fairfield; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie WORLEY of Burlington and Evelyn WORLEY of Washington.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Robert, Verle, Kenneth and Raeferd.
