ZACHMEYER, Richard Dale -- Richard Dale ZACHMEYER, 77, of Wapello, formerly of Morning Sun and Fairfield, died Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at Mercy Hospital Hospice in Iowa City.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene in Wapello, with the Rev. Claude Perhealth officiating. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, where the family will be present from 5:30-7 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice.
Mr. ZACHMEYER was born May 4, 1932, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Lester and Mary Louise KEINHOLTZ ZACHMEYER. He married Lucille Anita WEBER Sept. 17, 1955, in Des Moines. She died Dec. 19, 1965.
Mr. ZACHMEYER served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He lived in Fairfield and had been a farmer and worked at Fairfield Waterworks. In 1973, he moved to the Morning Sun area where he owned and operated an auto body repair shop. After retiring in 1991, he moved to Wapello.
Mr. ZACHMEYER was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Wapello, Moose Lodge in Burlington and American Legion Hays Scott Post 112 in Morning Sun.
He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, gardening, listening to country and western music, fixing and restoring vehicles and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include four daughters, Anita JORDAN and husband Charles of Lynn Haven, Fla., Rita SCHNEIDER and husband Timothy BRUCE of Iowa City, Darla SAMUELS and husband Eric of Wapello and Pamela FALAS and husband Joe of Muscatine; one son, Edward ZACHMEYER of Iowa; four grandchildren; three sisters, Loretta KELLER of Fairfield, Mabel BYERS of Lockridge and Patricia RITZ of Bonaparte; two brothers, Paul ZACHMEYER of Lebanon, Mo., and George ZACHMEYER of Mount Pleasant; and special friend, Orletha ROBERTSON of Columbus Junction.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia.
