PICKENS, Doris S. -- Doris S. PICKENS, 77, of rural Selma, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

In accordance with Mrs. PICKENS' wishes, no service or visitation is planned. The body has been cremated.

Memorials to Hospice of Wapello-Davis Counties may be mailed to 312 Alta Vista Ave., Ottumwa 52501.

Arrangements were in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home of Douds.

Mrs. PICKENS was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Ottumwa the daughter of James and Eva LANCASTER CASSAT. She married Bert W. PICKENS Oct. 28, 1950, in Lancaster, Mo. He died June 24, 2002.

Mrs. PICKENS lived in the Mount Sterling and Milton areas and graduated from Ottumwa High School. She was a homemaker. She also operated the Douds Locker with her husband before retiring in 1995.

Her home and her family were her primary interests.

Survivors include one son, Brian PICKENS of Letts; and one brother, James CASSAT of Agency.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dorothy CARR and Mary BOWERS.
