JONES, Irene L. -- Irene L. JONES, 98, of rural Douds, died at 6:05 a.m. today, Friday, April 3, 2009, at home.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Douds.
Open visitation will begin at noon Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m.
Memorials to St. Jude's Research Hospital or Boys' Town may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 16026 120th St., Douds 52551.
Mrs. JONES was born Sept. 29, 1910, in Hynes, the daughter of Orville A. and Ruth COOPER TROXEL. She married Harold C. "Bill" JONES June 24, 1933, in Lancaster, Mo. He died Dec. 5, 1964.
Mrs. JONES grew up in the Selma area and graduated from Selma High School in 1928. She lived on the same farm northeast of Douds since her marriage.
Mrs. JONES most recently attended Mount Zion Community Church south of Libertyville. She had taught Sunday school at the Mount Morial church north of Douds and at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds. She was a 61-year member of American Legion John Hyson Reneker Unit No. 494 of Douds. She also had been a longtime 4-H leader.
She enjoyed farming, gardening and caring for her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Verna CANADAY of Douds; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and one sister, Viola FIEDLER of Moulton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Myrna Ruth JONES; one grandson; two sisters, Elda HANNA and Gwendolene FIEDLER; and two brothers, Don TROXEL in infancy and Leonial TROXEL.
