GOLDEN, James W. -- James W. GOLDEN, 69, of Douds, died at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds.

Open visitation will begin at noon Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. A Masonic service by Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Celestial Lodge No. 413 of Douds will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and is open to the public. The Masonic service will be followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m.

Memorials to Douds Community Club or Celestial Lodge may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 14574 Washington St., Douds 52551.

Mr. GOLDEN was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Newton, the son of James W. and Vera GARDNER GODLEN. He married Shaaron D. LAGLE Nov. 14, 1958, at Eldon Christian Church.

Mr. GOLDEN graduated from Selma High School in 1957. He worked at Barker Equipment Company in Keosauqua and American Chain and Cable in Fairfield. He became owner and manager of Douds Mobil Service in 1967 and Van Buren Oil Company in 1984. He retired for health reasons in 1995 and turned operations over to his son, but continued to be involved in management. He and his wife had wintered in Texas for the past 13 years.

Mr. GOLDEN attended Zion Bible Church in Douds. He was a member of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Celestial Lodge No. 413 of Douds and Douds Community Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Susan CUNNINGHAM of Libertyville; one son, Robert GOLDEN and wife Lynn of Douds; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nancy LUDWIG; and one brother, Kenneth GOLDEN.
