SMITH, Ralph Edward -- Ralph Edward SMITH, 84, of Fairfield, died early today, Monday, March 23, 2009, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

SMITH, Ralph Edward -- Ralph Edward SMITH, 84, of Fairfield, died early Monday, March 23, 2009, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville, with the Rev. Scott Bieker officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Germanville.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1706 Linden Drive, Apt. D, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. SMITH was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Lockridge, the son of James B. and Mary COADY SMITH. He married Evelyn REBLING July 13, 1947.

Mr. SMITH lived all his life in Jefferson County and was a farmer most of his life.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Harold SMITH and wife Coleen of Fairfield; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris McCARTY of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Doug SMITH; two brothers, Bernard SMITH and Leonard SMITH; and one sister, Kathryn GILSON.
