HENDRICKS, Myrtle Rose Ella -- Myrtle Rose Ella HENDRICKS, 88, of Bonaparte, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bonaparte United Church, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. Private burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.

Memorials to Bonaparte Fire Department or Bonaparte United Church may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua or the church or may be mailed to the family at PO Box 173, Bonaparte 52620.

Mrs. HENDRICKS was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Harvard, Ill., the daughter of Ben Hopkins and Rose SEVERING HUNT. She married David Stanley HENDRICKS Oct. 21, 1938, in McAllister, Mont.

Mrs. HENDRICKS' moved as a child with her parents to Montana, where they were homesteaders. She graduated from Ennis, Mont., high school in 1938. She and her husband lived in several locations during World War II, including San Francisco, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Fla., and Oak Ridge, Tenn., where he worked in war plants. After the war, they returned to Keosauqua. In 1946, they moved to Bonaparte. Mrs. HENDRICKS was active in the operation of their gas stations and completed bookwork, pumped gas and changed oil while her husband did mechanical work. After retiring in 1974, she and her husband traveled the country for 12 years.

She enjoyed spending time with family and writing to those who had moved away from the community. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Surivors include two sons, David HENDRICKS and wife Dorothy of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ben HENDRICKS and wife Rose of Bonaparte; two daughters, Marye Jane KANDZOR and husband Terry of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Edna RAMSEY and husband Dennis of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth PAGE of Butte, Mont.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edna HUNT; and two brothers, Paul and John HUNT.
