COSENS, Mark Eugene -- Mark Eugene COSENS, 46, formerly of Fairfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at his home, after a courageous 22-month battle against brain cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at Madrid Jr. Sr. High School in Madrid. Private burial and committal services for the family will take place later at Otterman Cemetery, at rural Adel, Iowa. The Iles Funeral Homes --Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid is in charge of arrangements.

Mark was born February 14, 1963 to proud parents Russ and Judy COSENS and grew up in Jefferson, IA. Mark graduated from Jefferson High School in 1981. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a BA in education. Mark's first teaching position was PK-5th grade physical education in Minooka, IL. He returned to Iowa to teach MS math and HS industrial arts at Dexfield CSD. In 1994, Mark took the position of 6-12 Activities Director in Fairfield, IA. Mark received his master's degree in school administration from the University of Iowa and moved to Madrid, where he has been the Jr. Sr. High School Principal for the last 11 years.

On May 24, 1986, Mark married Darcy ADAMSON in Stuart, IA. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Cory (22), Chad (20) & Bo (16). Mark has always been involved in his children's activities as well as the lives of the students that he taught, coached and mentored during his career in education.

He is survived by his wife, Darcy; sons, Cory, Chad and Bo; parents, Russ and Judy COSENS; sisters, Maralie (Greg) RUTH and Melody (Darrell) FOUNTAIN; brothers-in-law, Dan (Terri) ADAMSON, John (Karalee) SCOTT, Todd (Nikki) ADAMSON; and in-laws, Roy & Sandy SARGENT and Dale & Jackie ADAMSON.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the Madrid Jr. Sr. High.
