ROBISON, Kathryn 'Kate' -- Kathryn "Kate" ROBISON, 96, of Washington, Iowa, died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Brownlee Health Center at United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Brighton's Hillcrest Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established for United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa.

Mrs. ROBISON was born Sept. 2, 1912, south of Abingdon, the daughter of Ransom and Edna Bert IVES WHITMORE. She married Dwight ROBISON in 1932. He died in 1988.

Mrs. ROBISON grew up near Abingdon and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1930. She taught at a rural school south of Abingdon for two years. After raising her children, she began teaching again in rural schools near Brighton. She completed her two-year degree at Parsons College in 1956. She later taught in Brighton, Gibson and Durant schools until her retirement in 1973.

Mrs. ROBISON attended Brighton United Church. She was a member of Brighton Chapter 486 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kroney Krew, Merry Moderns, TTT, Business and Professional Women and Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, growing flowers and attending school functions for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin W. "Skip" ROBISON of Chandler, Ariz., and Lawrence W. ROBISON and wife Sarah of Brighton; one daughter, Nona Elaine RENN and husband Jack of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred HICKS of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Cephas WHITMORE and Ralph WHITMORE; and five sisters, Margaret GANTZ, Marie COUGHLIN, Florence FAAS, Pauline WHITMORE and Frances JOHNSTON.
