DOWNARD, Kenneth P. -- Kenneth P. DOWNARD, 98, of Keosauqua, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at home.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Elsa Lawry officiating. Burial will be in Miller Chapel Cemetery, northeast of Keosauqua.

Open visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Keosauqua Senior Center or Van Buren County Historical Society may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 906 Seventh St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. DOWNARD was born Feb. 7, 1911, south of Stockport, the son of John Lincoln and Justina BOHUN DOWNARD. He married Miriam E. JOHNSTON Oct. 26, 1938, in Fairfield. She died May 7, 2003.

Mr. DOWNARD graduated from Stockport High School. He was a building contractor in Keosauqua.

Mr. DOWNARD was a 50-year member of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Keosauqua Lodge No. 10.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty JOHNSON and husband Roy of Keosauqua; one son, James DOWNARD and wife Kathy of Union, Mo.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Marguerite ARCHIBALD of Keosauqua; and one brother, Robert DOWNARD of Ankeny.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Verne, Orlen, Roy, John and Dale DOWNARD; and three sisters, Ruth VICKERMAN, Frances DANNEIL and Roberta LERCHE.
