STEELE, Alice P. -- Alice P. STEELE, 89, formerly of Eldon, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, with the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, with the family present beginning at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. STEELE was born April 29, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Bertha SMITH WOODARD in Ottumwa. She married Francis Herbert STEELE in September 1939 in Ottumwa. He died March 16, 1985.
Mrs. STEELE graduated from Ottumwa High School and qualified for a teaching certificate. In 1959, she started working for Universal Producing Company and worked there until it ceased operations.
Mrs. STEELE was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star and Degree of Honor organizations in Ottumwa. She also belonged to the WIBC Bowling League in Ottumwa and Fairfield.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include seven children, Arthur STEELE and wife Linda of Eldon, Mary Alice BICKFORD and husband Jerry of Selma, Judith FINDLAY and husband Robert of Marengo, Rebecca HOWARD of Fairfield, Faye BOYD and husband Larry of Brighton, Raymond STEELE of Marengo and Joyce MILLS and husband Frank of Margtinsburg; 31 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June McDONALD of New Meadows, Idaho, and Marlyn WEIR of Ottumwa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Norlan, Walter, Paul and Robert; one sister, Helen GILLILAND; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
