IRISH, Betty J. -- Betty J. IRISH, 80, of rural Keosauqua, died from metastatic cancer at 4 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at her daughter Connie RIPPLE's home in rural Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery southeast of Keosauqua.

Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. today and beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 21874 Highway 2, Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. IRISH was born April 16, 1928, in Sheffield, the daughter of Henry and Lena WALTERS. She married Ralph D. IRISH Feb. 20, 1948, in Osage. He died March 12, 1993.

Mrs. IRISH lived in Rock Island, Ill., for several years and worked at Alcoa in Bettendorf. She and her husband also farmed and raised cattle and hogs. They moved to the Keosauqua and Mount Sterling area in 1980 and continued to grain farm.

Mrs. IRISH enjoyed nature, especially birds. She also liked spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie RIPPLE and Beverly SPEER, both of Keosauqua; one son, Ronald IRISH of Geneseo, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Judy SMELSER of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one sister, Irene GIVINS of Waverly; and one brother, Roy WALTERS of Osage.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Linda Kaye IRISH; and one stepdaughter, Betty SMELSER.
