ROGERS, Eloise Annie -- Eloise Annie ROGERS, 90, of Fairfield, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harlan VanVoorst officiating. Interment will be in the Switzer family cemetery, northeast of Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Batavia United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1346 Highway 1, Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. ROGERS was born Sept. 1, 1918, in rural Fairfield, the daughter of Clarence and Annie DUNCAN SWITZER. She married Eldon ROGERS Sept. 3, 1939, at her parents' home. He died Oct. 22, 1994.

Mrs. ROGERS grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School, where she participated in the Glee Club, in 1935. Following high school, she taught in one-room schools in Jefferson and Henry counties from 1937-1939. She and her husband lived on a farm near Richland until moving to Tucson, Ariz., in 1953. While in Arizona, she first worked as a waitress, then as a retail clerk for 25 years. Following retirement, she and her husband returned to Batavia to be near family. In May of 2008, she moved to SunnyBrook Assisted Living and then to the Jefferson County Hospital Living Care Center in November.

Mrs. ROGERS attended the Methodist church in Fairfield and sang in the choir. She was active in Mariposa Chapter 31 of Order of the Eastern Star and served as worthy matron in 1973. She also was a member of Saharo No. 2 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past Matron Club and Retired Teacher Association.

She enjoyed gardening, embroidering and cooking.

Survivors include one sister, Doris STUKENBERG of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Warren; one sister, Helen HIRD; and special friend, Dale MILLER.
