SCHMITTER, Fred 'Bud' Otto, Jr. -- Fred "Bud" Otto SCHMITTER Jr., 71, of Libertyville, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Hospice of Wapello County.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. David Albert officiating. Interment will be at Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the oncology center at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center or Ottumwa Hospice House.

Mr. SCHMITTER was born Dec. 13, 1937, near Brighton, the son of Fred Otto Sr. and Edith Pringle MORGAN.

Mr. SCHMITTER was a 1956 graduate of Batavia High School. He farmed near Birmingham, Libertyville and Batavia and worked at American Chain and Cable Company. He also worked for Farm Bureau for 20 years, starting in 1988.

Mr. SCHMITTER played lead guitar for the bands Dads & Lads and Country Four. He was a member of Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie; five children, Douglas SCHMITTER and wife Madge of Batavia, Rebecca GIBERSON and husband William of Packwood, Mark SCHMITTER and wife Becca of Libertyville, Robert SCHMITTER and wife Kelly of Keosauqua and Kristi SCHMITTER of Page, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two foster grandchildren; five foster great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Bonnie LEYDEN of Birmingham and Sherry HUNTER of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Boyd SCHMITTER; and one sister, Mildred Ruth EMMONS.
