SPURGEON, Doris M. -- Doris M. SPURGEON, 90, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

SPURGEON, Doris M. -- Doris M. SPURGEON, 90, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Linda Foor officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 4-6 p.m.

Memorials to Fellows Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 220 W. Harrison St., Washington 52353.

Mrs. SPURGEON was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Davis County, the daughter of Levi and Ruth CHRISTY CHADWICK. She married Harvey W. SPURGEON Sept. 3, 1939. He died Aug. 25, 2006.

Mrs. SPURGEON grew up in Davis County and graduated from Bloomfield High School. She attended secretarial school and was employed as a secretary in Ottumwa. She and her husband moved to Keosauqua in 1949 and owned and operated Spurgeon's Jewelry prior to her husband becoming postmaster.

Mrs. SPURGEON was a member of Keosauqua Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary Beer-Barker Post 113. She was a 50-year member and past matron of the former Order of the Eastern Star Lynds Chapter in Keosauqua and was more recently a member of the Twin City Chapter No. 258 in Douds. She had been a member of Keosauqua Quilt Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Elaine BOZMAN of Washington, Iowa, Lorraine GUY and husband Wendel of Washington, Iowa, and Nancy RAE and husband David of Salisbury, Mo.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Robert CHADWICK of Ottumwa and John CHADWICK of St. Louis, Mo.; five sisters, Alice HARDER of Center Point, Ore., Jean KOEHLER of Burlington, Joann HUNTER of Seymour, Joyce PENCE of Bloomfield and Jeanette CHADWIDK of West Burlington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Martin and Carl CHADWICK; and two sisters, Judy CHADWICK and Mary Lee LYONS.
