SHAKLEE, Paul H. -- Paul H. SHAKLEE, 85, formerly of Stockport, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Woodland Manor in Conroe, Texas.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Spencer Cemetery in rural Stockport, with the Rev. Linda Renken officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Cemetery.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. SHAKLEE was born April 19, 1923, in Enid, Okla., the son of Warren and Effa REED SHAKLEE. He married Martha MARSH.

When Mr. SHAKLEE was 1 year old, he and his family moved to Stockport. He grew up in Stockport and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1941. He joined the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1945. He was assigned to Washington, D.C., and among other duties, was assigned as one of the presidential guards to Franklin Roosevelt. Later he was reassigned to receive medical training in Washington state and worked as a medical driver overseas in France and Germany. He and his wife lived in Mount Pleasant for a few years before moving to the Stockport area, where he worked as a farmer, a pulp wood contractor and later as a truck driver. In 1976, he and his wife retired and moved to Ankeny. In 1998, they moved to Spring, Texas, and later to Conroe, Texas.

Survivors include three children, Carroll SHAKLEE of Quincy, Ill., and Paula NELSON and Leroy SHAKLEE, both of Conroe, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
